Pune: The case involving the Pune teenager who caused the deaths of two individuals early Sunday while driving his father's ₹2.5 crore Porsche under the influence has taken an additional turn as of Thursday evening.
The authorities will now also examine potential breaches in procedure in the aftermath of the incident, including possible special treatment for the 17-year-old son of a well-known city developer.
In particular, a high-ranking officer - Assistant Commissioner of Police Ashwini Rakh - will interrogate personnel at the Yerwada police station where the initial report was lodged. The accusations include downplaying the severity of the incident in initial reports and postponing a necessary medical test to determine the boy's blood alcohol concentration.
However, perhaps the most startling claim is that officers were more focused on 'investigating' Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta - the 24-year-old software engineers who were fatally struck.
Pizza, Burger Provided to Teen in Pune Porsche Incident?
Meanwhile, an opposition leader has alleged that the boy was treated delicately and even provided with food - pizzas and burgers - while in police custody following the dreadful road accident.
This allegation was made by Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi leader and former two-time Lok Sabha MP Prakash Ambedkar, who posted on X, "Officers at Yerwada Police Station spent more time probing the connection between Aneesh and Ashwini - IT professionals fatally struck by a drunk minor - while the accused was allegedly given a burger and pizza," and directed six questions to the police.
Among the questions Prakash Ambedkar raised (and which may now be addressed) were the reasons behind the eight-hour delay in conducting a blood alcohol test on the teenager and why he was not immediately sent to a remand home.

Public outrage ensued after the Juvenile Board granted the boy bail within 15 hours on conditions perceived as lenient, including two bonds of ₹7,500 each and a 300-word essay on road accidents. This decision was overturned late Wednesday, and the boy was ordered to a remand home until June 5.
Currently, the boy is facing a charge of drunk driving, which, as a first-time offense, carries a maximum penalty of six months imprisonment and a ₹10,000 fine. However, if the Juvenile Board permits him to be tried as an adult, he could face a charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder (Hindustan Times) (India TV News).
