Tropical Storm Erin (2025) formed in the eastern Atlantic on August 11, 2025

🔹 Current Status (as of August 11, 2025)

  • Location: Just west of the Cabo Verde Islands.

  • Maximum sustained winds: ~40–45 mph (65–75 km/h).

  • Movement: West-northwest across the open Atlantic.

  • Pressure: ~1004 mb.

🔹 Forecast

  • Strengthening is likely: Forecasters expect Erin to become the first hurricane of the season within the next couple of days, possibly intensifying into a Category 3 major hurricane by late week.

  • Track: Most forecast models curve Erin northwestward over the central Atlantic, likely passing between Bermuda and the U.S. East Coast around Aug 19–21.

  • Current threat: No immediate danger to land, but swells and rip currents could affect parts of the Caribbean and East Coast later.

🔹 Why it matters

  • The 2025 hurricane season has been relatively quiet until now, but Erin may set the tone for a more active late season, especially with warm Atlantic waters and favorable atmospheric conditions.
