"Social Security COLA Could Fall in 2026, Forecasts Say"

As of February 23, 2025, the Social Security Administration (SSA) has not yet announced the official Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) for 2026. The COLA is typically determined based on the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) from the third quarter of the preceding year. Therefore, the 2026 COLA will be announced in October 2025, following the release of the relevant CPI-W data.

However, several organizations have provided early projections for the 2026 COLA:

The Senior Citizens League (TSCL) estimates a 2.3% increase for 2026, which is slightly lower than the 2.5% increase for 2025.

Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) forecasts a 2.1% increase for 2026, indicating a further decrease from the previous year's adjustment.

It's important to note that these are preliminary estimates and may change as more data becomes available. The official COLA announcement will be made by the SSA in October 2025.
